Othering; The process of perceiving or portraying someone or something as fundamentally different or alien from what is familiar, expected, or generally accepted. Used as a tool to construct social hierarchy by defining the Other as inferior, reducing a complex human being, group or culture to a set of fixed traits.
Who or what is the ‘Other’?
And how does our perception of ‘It’ differ from the way we perceive ‘Ourselves’?
Through a series of self portraits this project tries to deconstruct the process of Othering and thereby illuminate the mythical creation of The Other.
